White bumps in the throat are also called tonsil stones and they cause bad breath and a lot of other uncomfortable conditions. In this article, you are going to get the chance to look at some pictures of these bumps. That way, you can compare and see if they are similar to the ones that you have in the back of your own throat.

The shape of these white bumps will be different and possibly unique from person to person. This is because they take on the shape of the tonsil crypts where the material of these bumps are stored. The bump then grows and grows, as more and more material is added. The color is also affected depeding on what type of material that is added. Mostly the stones take on a white color, but there are instances of green and yellow stones as well.

The material for these bumps are all kinds of bacteria, viruses, dead cells, chemicals, and toxins, as well as other particles that the tonsils have filtered out of the lymph fluid in the upper part of your body.

Here's the first set of pictures that show these white bumps a.k.a. tonsil stones.

Note that these pictures are different than those that show signs of tonsillitis. When a person show sign of tonsillitis, the white material on the tonsils are generally more fluid and lies on top of the tonsils. The following sets of pictures will show you how a tonsillitis infection looks like so you can find out whether you have tonsillitis or tonsil stones.

There aren't that many pictures of white bumps or tonsil stones around. Most people are a bit embarrassed to have these things in their throats and therefore don't publish them online. But many people do have these bumps so you are not alone.

Tonsil stones are not caused by a virus or bacterial infection but are more a lifestyle issue. You can read more about tonsil stones by reading any of the articles below.

Had my first one in 3rd grade - some 34 years ago. At that time, I only had ONE little crypt in my left tonsil (interestingly, most people I talk to get them first, and more frequently, on the left side). Over the last almost 35 years, my left tonsil has turned into a cavernous crypt of connecting tunnels and pockets. I have them on the right side too, but not nearly as large nor as frequently as on the left. I have an irrigation syringe - used to keep an extracted tooth area clean - and I squirt saline into one tonsil crypt, and stuff comes out all the other little holes...they're all connected. They stink when you smash them, they give a rotten taste and smelly breath, they're a huge nuisance. Most of mine are a pale white, though I occasionally get some that are gray or darker yellow. The odor is always foul, and if I've had a particularly strong smelling meal, they'll sometimes take on a faint odor of that meal. As you swallow, the masticated (chewed up) food and accompanying saliva rubs against the tonsil which causes some of the food/saliva to get caught in the pocket (crypt) and ferment as part of the tonsil stone, professionally called a Tonsillollith. If you are young (high school or younger) and get these, they'll haunt you your whole life, so therefore I highly recommend you show this and all other available info to your parents and consider a pre-emotive treatment such as tonsil removal (no tonsils = no tonsil crypts = no tonsil stones) or a cauterization process. Any other questions, email me at jb0579@yahoo.com and put TONSIL STONES in all-caps in the subject line. I'll answer all enquirees
